1. Who We Are
Computer Clinic is a laptop and computer repair business based in Plumstead, South East London. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly.
2. Information We Collect
We keep the personal information required for a normal repair booking deliberately limited. Different information is involved depending on how you deal with us, so we set each one out separately below.
2.1 Repair bookings and job sheets
For our standard job sheets and bookings, we normally record your name and telephone number so that we can identify your repair, contact you regarding the work and maintain the relevant job and warranty record. We also record details of the device itself (make, model, and where relevant a model or serial number) and the fault reported.
We do not routinely collect home addresses or dates of birth for a normal repair booking. An email address is recorded only where a customer chooses to provide one, and a second contact number only where one is given.
2.2 Website contact form
If you use the contact form on this website, we receive your name, email address, message, an optional telephone number, and the IP address the message was sent from (used for spam prevention and abuse protection).
2.3 Live chat and repair messages
If you use our live chat widget, we store the messages you send and any name you choose to give. Messages sent through the repair tracking page are stored against the relevant job. A chat identifier is kept in your browser so a conversation continues across page views.
2.4 Cookies and similar storage
We use essential browser storage (for example to remember your cookie choice and your chat session) and may use analytics cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details.
2.5 Analytics and technical information
Our website and hosting providers process standard technical information such as pages visited, referring pages, approximate location, browser type and IP address in server and security logs. This is used to keep the site available, secure and working properly.
2.6 Email
If you email us, we hold that email and any information in it for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any related repair record.
2.7 Payments
Payment card details are handled by our payment provider and are not stored by us.
2.8 Information on devices left for repair
This is separate from the information we collect from you. A device left with us may contain your own personal files. We do not intentionally access files unrelated to the repair, and access is limited to what is reasonably necessary to diagnose, repair and test the reported fault, or to carry out a service you have specifically requested such as data recovery or a data transfer. A device password or passcode is not part of the normal job sheet information and is only requested where it is needed for that particular repair. See Your Data & Privacy During Repairs.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal data to:
- Provide and manage repair services
- Contact you about your repair status
- Process payments
- Respond to enquiries and provide quotes
- Improve our services and website
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data based on: contractual necessity (to carry out repairs), legitimate interest (to improve our services), and consent (for marketing communications, where applicable).
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties, except where necessary to complete a repair (e.g. ordering manufacturer-specific parts) or where required by law.
6. Data Retention
We retain customer records for up to 2 years after the last service provided, for warranty and reference purposes. You can request deletion of your data at any time.
7. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing
- Data portability
- Lodge a complaint with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office)
8. Data Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Customer devices are stored securely on our premises.
